Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant - Stratosphere Boogie + Swinging On The Strings
An easy way to describe this would be to string a bunch of labels together - instrumental-country-jazz-rockabilly-blues-bop-blah-blah... The uniqueness of these recordings is that they exist outside of the style divisions. In fact, this music was created before the modern styles drifted apart; and by people who simply did not know that country cannot be jazz because "that's not done". Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant were two white hillbilly kids, and so they grew up with the sounds of bluegrass and country-and-western; they also were very talented, curious musicians, and their ears were open to the cutting edge of instrumental music in America, and in the late 40s - early 50s it was bebop. Finally, both played new, recently invented, futuristic instruments: Speedy West was a steel guitar player, and Jimmy Bryant was one of the first solidbody guitarists in the world, and the first one to get Fender Telecaster when it went into production. There is no self-conscious "breaking the rules" kind of feeling, as there were no rules. They were unconstrained by the tradition because there was none: they simply had to invent everything themselves from the ground up. Nothing like this have ever been recorded before, and soon after they walked out of the studio for the last time, the gates between different styles shut down for keeps.
The "starting-from-a-clean-slate" approach sometimes produces interesting results even in the hands of people completely devoid of talent - just look at the Shaggs or the Stooges - but West and Bryant were accomplished studio musicians, true musical geniuses, and these two collections might be some of the most far-out, unique stuff you might hear.
AMG says: Fans of country and jazz guitar will discover two new idols after delving into this 16-track collection [Stratosphere Boogie], which features the best of the genre-shattering sessions recorded by this legendary duo. Between Bryant's jazzy, lightning-fast leads and West's brash, groundbreaking pedal steel work, the two recorded some of the most astounding instrumental country music of all time. Whether it's the hilarious "Sleepwalker's Lullaby" or top-fuel classics like "Old Joe Clark" and "Arkansas Traveler," the pair's 1950s records were among the most experimental music being made anywhere in America. It doesn't hurt to add that they were extremely influential, and one spends nearly as much time laughing along with these songs as they do trying to figure out how the hell anyone ever got this good.

Loud, Fast and Out of Control - The Wild Sounds of 50s Rock
A great box set from Rhino, this compilation sets out to prove that 50's rock was dangerous and full of attitude. The message is in the title, in the cover art that shows a cartoonish greaser roughing up a square, in the liner notes illustrated with the pulpy 50s paperbacks about gangs, loose women, and reefer. And of course the message is in the music, a great set of manic, greasy, frothy-mouthed tunes - rock-n-roll, R&B, jump blues, and rockabilly.

Songs The Cramps Taught Us Vol. 1 and 2
The Cramps' spiritual leader and guitarist Poison Ivy is also well known as a collector and connosieur of rare rockabilly and garage-rock singles. These two CDs collect the 50's and 60's obscurities covered, touted, or quoted by The Cramps.

Songs The Cramps Taught Us: Vol. 1 (104 mb, 192 kbps) and Vol. 2 (99 mb, mostly 192 kbps) on megaupload.
There is also a third volume that I don't have, I will appreciate any leads on that. Marcel in the comments pointed me to the Wild Wild Party blog that has the third volume - along with a ton of other great stuff!
The track list is in the comments.
P.S. A lot of the same material is covered on the Born Bad series.

Robert Gordon With Link Wray + Fresh Fish Special
Another entry in the Link Wray retrospective. Two albums recorded by Link with the rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon in the late 70s. These records are near perfect on many levels. In the aftermath of the punk explosion, the world finally caught up with Link's noisy, minimalistic guitar sensibilities that seemed so far out in the 50s. Link is finally able to play what he wants for the sympathetic, appreciative audience - and, what's more important, with the sympathetic, appreciative band members. The songs are drawn from the early rock and rockabilly gold reserve; the execution perfectly balances respect for the material and a modernized sound - mostly thanks to Link's guitar.
This disc combines two original albums on one CD with bonus tracks.
Great stuff, get it now!

Rumble! The Best of Link Wray
I wanted to play something that didn't sound like Chet Atkins - Link Wray
Link Wray - the other guitar hero of the 50's. Where Chet Atkins stood for dedication, professionalism, musicianship, Link was raw power, the grit, the attitude. There isn't much I can say about him besides recycling the old cliches - Rumble is the only instrumental banned from radio play for being "suggestive of delinquency" and it's also the most memorable tune from Pulp Fiction that somehow did not get onto the soundtrack album; Link's guitar sounds that way because he punched holes in the amp speaker; his singing sounds that way because he's only got one lung; Link is an "inventor of the power chord" and godfather of the 60s noise-mongerers like Pete Townshend...
Link is the first person to show that noise can be music and vice versa, and a reminder to us all that there is no wrong or right way to do things: if the only way to get that sound is to string your guitar with a barbed wire and strum it with a tin can top, then that's what you got to do - even though Chet Atkins wouldn't approve.

Lonnie Mack - Memphis Wham! (expanded)
I was reading a "best 60's instrumentals" list one time, with all the usual contenders - Booker T and the MGs, the Ventures, Link Wray, stuff like Telstar, Tequila and Misirlou, and all the rest. There was one name I didn't recognise, though - Lonnie Mack. I found an album that had both of his signature instrumentals, one called Memphis and another named Wham!, and, yes, they both very much deserved a place on the best-of list. What really blew me away, though, was his singing. The intense vocal over the burning guitar solos and the soul-y brass section support sounded so much like my favorite West Side bluesman - Otis Rush - that I was shocked to find out that Mr. Mack is neither black nor a Chicagoan.
Lonnie Mack is the stocky guy with a pompadour and a Flying V on the picture below. He wears his influences on his sleeve: the pompie and his love of instrumentals are reminiscent of Freddie King, and the Flying V is just like the other King, Albert, plays.
Lonnie's career is similar to that of the guitar legends like James Burton, Roy Buchanan, Jimmy Bryant, and Danny Gatton: the effortless virtuosity made him a legend in the musicians' circles, but his distaste for the music business kept him away from the public eye. Blues fans may know him as the biggest influence on SRV; Lonnie Mack's comeback concert brought together a score of other fans like Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Ry Cooder (who joined Lonnie onstage) and Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, Eddie Van Halen, who were in the audience.
I meant to start this entry with the famous quote from Hunter S. Thompson but then found it on Lonnie Mack's website (bottom of this page).
This record includes the original LP from 1964 and some non-album tracks.
