Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley

Kyuss is the archetypal cult band. Think of all the things that make a cult, and Kyuss have them. They were short-lived - 1990-95. They only left three LPs. They became more famous after the dissolution then they ever were in their lifetime. They are called the progenitors of a new style, and music critics are falling over themselves thinking of the catchy names for it: stoner rock/metal, sludge-metal, desert rock... The members went on to the higher-profile projects - Fu Manchu, Mondo Generator, Queens of the Stone Age. Finally, through the 90s there were a million bad bands trying to emulate what Kyuss were doing.
The "desert rock" tag points to the origins of their music. They started out by playing parties in the desert, and their expansive sound is intended to fill up all that endless space. It rolls slowly, but heavily, in all directions, like hot lava, melting everything in its path. On this album, the songs also expand in time, fusing together into three long cuts for the maximum psychedelic effect. This is truly a must for any self-respecting stoner.
